When administering medication by injection, it is important to maintain a reasonable level of medical asepsis. That is, disease organisms or infected material should be removed.

An open workspace (that has been cleaned) should be used for mixing the medications and hands should be thoroughly washed (with soap and water) before mixing and administering the medications.
