The subcutaneous injection sites commonly used are the abdomen, thigh and upper arm.
When frequent injections are necessary then the injection sites should be rotated to avoid injecting medication into an inflamed region. For example, when the abdomen is used a rotation plan can be developed such that each injection is in a separate quadrant of the abdomen (upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right using the umbilicus to define the quadrants). With the 5th injection in this rotation, the injection site should be away from the site used with the initial injection.
