Needles, syringes, and broken glass ampules should be discarded safely. These “sharps” could cause wounds or punctures to anyone who handles them (including the person that collects your trash if they are inadvertently placed in these containers).
Placement of sharps should always be into a heavy plastic container (a commercial available “sharps container” is ideal but a heavy plastic soda container usually suffices). The local town then often needs to be called to determine where to appropriately recycle or dispose of these containers.
